Letter writer Leah Wood said it well in her Jan. 30 letter to the editor, a plea as a student to keep Barat College open. As a former administrator there, I cannot think of Lake Forest without thinking of Barat, which moved there as a Catholic women’s academy/college in 1904 from Chicago. Barat has always made a fundamental commitment to help each student seek the full development of her or his analytical and synthesizing intellectual abilities and to foster critical appreciation of moral, cultural and artistic values. Wood is among thousands who have benefited from this commitment. It would be tragic to deny many others the benefit of choosing Barat by closing its doors.
