Northwestern University let a small group of 4th-grade boys from Fred Johnson’s Playclub run a few scrimmage plays before a Dyche Stadium crowd at one home game. In the excitement of stretching a new lettered jersey over shoulder pads, I accidentally left part of my equipment at home when I was picked up for the game.
Imagine my parents’ surprise when they heard the game announcer say, “Look at that; one tough player doesn’t even need a helmet.”
