Kudos to Gary M. Galles for his “Remembering Reagan’s humor” (Commentary, Feb. 1).

Americans should focus on the way Reagan’s perpetual optimism lifted our nation to hope, patriotism and prosperity.

Reagan’s message of power to the people and less power to the government was always clear and concise.

Although his eight years in office weren’t perfect (no president’s ever have been), he lifted the spirits of the American people to new heights, similar to the way our parents and grandparents felt with Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Because of that we as individuals created and accomplished more good for this country than ever before.

Ronald Reagan is truly a great American and he deserves our respect and praise.

Happy Birthday, Mr. President.

You were the best.
