Andy Roddick hit a record-breaking 150 m.p.h. serve to set the tone for his lopsided Davis Cup victory.

Teammate Robby Ginepri had to work much harder for his own precedent-setting win.

Roddick and Ginepri gave the United States a 2-0 lead over Austria on Friday in their best-of-five first-round Davis Cup match in Uncasville, Conn.

Ginepri came back to beat Jurgen Melzer 6-7 (6), 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2, becoming the first U.S. rookie in the 105-year history of the Davis Cup to win a match after dropping the first two sets.

In the second match, U.S. Open champion Roddick set a new standard, breaking the mark of 149 he shared with Greg Rusedski, and overwhelmed Stefan Koubek 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in 1 1/2 hours. The Americans can advance to a quarterfinal meeting against defending champion Australia or Sweden, who are tied 1-1, by winning Saturday’s doubles match featuring Bob and Mike Bryan.

– Rusedski will not allow the World-Anti-Doping Agency to attend his hearing in Montreal on Monday for a positive steroid test.

The 1997 U.S. Open finalist will appear before an ATP Tour panel to explain why he tested positive for nandrolone at an Indianapolis tournament in July. Rusedski could face a two-year ban that could be appealed to an arbitration panel.

The Canadian-born Briton contends the banned substance may have come from supplements supplied by ATP trainers. He says his test result was similar to those of seven other players who tested positive for nandrolone but escaped suspension.
