– The board of the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District, which owns and operates the Chicago, South Shore and South Bend Railroad, plans to spend some $60 million to upgrade its rail traffic control network. The board has awarded a $31.5 million contract for the project’s first phase to Divane Bros. of Franklin Park. The contract is for the first of a three-phase project and will overhaul the system from the Kensington/115th Street station in Chicago to Gary.
