Salvatore J. Digate, age 76, of Plano, Illinois passed away on Friday, February 6, 2004 at Provena Mercy Center in Aurora, Illinois. He was born on April 14, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, the youngest of nine children born to Andrew and Rosalie, nee Serpico, Digate. Salvatore was united in marriage on June 10, 1950 in Oak Park, Illinois to the former Concetta “Connie” LaGiovine and they spent the next 53 happy years of their lives together. Salvatore served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plano, Illinois. Sal was an avid sportsman enjoying both fishing and hunting with his family and friends. Salvatore was an entrepreneur, having worked in the grocery business for over 40 years. He was the past owner of both the Safari Market in Yorkville, Illinois and the Town & Country in Plano, Illinois. Mr. Digate was a member of the Plano Lion’s Club and various grocery organizations. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Mr. Digate is survived by his wife, Connie Digate of Plano, Illinois; his two sons, James (Gail) Digate of Yorkville, Illinois and Ken (Terry) Digate of Plano, Illinois; his grandchildren, Nicole (Jed) Frame of Crested Butte, Colorado, Natalie (Bob) Muth of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Anthony, Adam, and Peter Digate, all of Plano, Illinois; his great-granddaughters, Marion and Anneliese Frame; his sisters, Jenny Picone of Coloma, Michigan and Lena Marino of Spooner, Wisconsin; as well as many nieces and nephews. Salvatore was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Rosalie Digate; his two sisters, Mary and Josie; and his four brothers, Leonard, Jack, Joseph, and James. A Funeral Mass for Mr. Digate will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 901 N. Center St. in Plano, Illinois with Father Jerome Zalonis, M.I.C., officiating. Entombment will follow in the Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois.
