Charles O. Boardman, 91, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004. Born on Oct. 15, 1912 in Paris, KY. He was an avid student of music and the fine arts, beginning writing and composing music before age 15. World War II interrupted his musical studies when he was sent to Army Language Schools to study French and German. He served throughout Europe as a 1st Lieutenant and was involved with the Nuremberg Trials after the War. Before and after the war he worked at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Hall for 35 years. During this time he was appointed General Manager and organized international tours for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In 1974, he retired to North Miami, FL and spent over 25 years in this area with friends and relatives. He enjoyed attending many cultural events and continued to compose music and play the piano. He made several trips to Costa Rica where he lived with local families to continue his knowledge of the Spanish language. He was an active member of the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Miami and periodically donated his time to working at their book and gift store. He is predeceased by his beloved sister Elsa B. Stephens. He will be dearly missed by his three nephews, Charles, Douglas and Scott Stephens and their families; and his brother John Tomsett; in addition to a number of friends in both Dade and Broward County where he resided the last 2 1/2 years of his life.
