This is regarding “Back-yard rinks a hit with home team; With a real cold snap on hand, ice skating is having a big year, providing fun and exercise for kids and a nostalgia trip for parents” (Page 1, Jan. 23).
The story brought back memories long forgotten.
We had a good size yard and three daughters who loved to skate.
My husband worked hours building up the snow to form the rink.
There was layer after layer of water added to make the ice smooth.
And finally our girls and friends were off in this small arena of fun.
Our basement was hung with wet jackets, hats and gloves.
And the best part was when they all sat for hot cocoa and cookies with eyes bright and cheeks rosy.
At 82, I sat eating breakfast and read the story; it made my morning a beautiful remembrance.
Ah yes, did I tell you how I skated?
Another day perhaps.
