Reading the inspiring story of teacher Jean Flynn, I was struck by how long it has been since I read a story in the newspaper portraying the Roman Catholic Church as I experience it: as a warm, supportive community. The crimes of certain church leaders warrant the media’s coverage but have overpowered the image of the Catholic Church. We, the members, are the body of the church, and the works of the vast majority of us remain positive. It is heartening that these children have gained so much through their faith.
