Richard Boyko Sr., 53, made a living as a printer while dabbling in computers in his spare time. “He was somebody you could always count on,” said his wife, Donna. A 19-year resident of Des Plaines, Mr. Boyko died of cancer Tuesday, Feb. 10, in Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. He was born in West Germany and immigrated to Chicago at age 5 with his parents. He began working in his late teens for E&L Printing in Chicago. He enlisted in 1970, hoping to get computer training in the military, but once his printing experience became known, he was put to work producing military forms for the Army. He served until 1973, then went to work at Faucett Printing in Chicago. He married in 1984. The couple lived in Des Plaines. Mr. Boyko produced catalogs as a web pressman at Segerdahl Corp. in Wheeling, GTE Corp. in Des Plaines, Redson Rice in Elk Grove Village and Jefferson Smurfit Corp. in St. Charles. At the time of his death, he was working again at Segerdahl Corp. Other survivors include a son, Richard M. Jr.; his parents, Maximillian and Katharina; two brothers, Michael and Max; and a sister, Katherine Fry. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, with services at 11 a.m., in Christ Church, 1492 Henry Ave., Des Plaines.
