St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 will save substantially after rebidding and awarding a contract for waste removal and recycling services this week.
The school board Monday evening voted unanimously to rehire Waste Management of Batavia, its current waste contractor, for a 16-month term beginning April 1.
District 303 officials said the move will save 19 percent over the cost of removing waste during the nine months when school is in, roughly $10,115 in one school year, officials said.
Director of Communications Tom Hernandez said the district currently pays from $4,500 to $8,000 per school month for waste removal, “depending on volume and frequency of pickup.”
The new agreement with Waste Management runs from April 1, 2004, until July 31, 2005. The school district then has the option of renewing the contract for up to two more years.
