I think Rick Morrissey’s Sox column misses the whole point. In a word, they’re cheapskates.

Start with the founder, Charles Comiskey, whose greed created the Black Sox. The ballpark in the `40s and `50s was always decrepit and shabby–at least Bill Veeck cleaned it up.

Then came Jerry Reinsdorf, who blackmailed the city by threatening to leave, and he got the present [abomination] with the luxury boxes of greed that screwed up the whole design.

Hoist on his own petard.

Now a sponsor’s cash will try to undo a designed mess. But Reinsdorf still won’t spend to hire or retain. The only solution is a new owner willing to compete.
