During his years as a Chicago bank executive, Ray T. Schubert would most often take the homeless people who approached him seeking money into a nearby restaurant and buy them a meal. “He had a positive impact on a lot of people because of his generosity and selflessness,” said his daughter, Carolyn Young. Mr. Schubert, 75, of Skokie, a retired assistant vice president of wire transfers for LaSalle Bank in Chicago, died of a heart attack on Friday, Feb. 13, in a California hospital. After graduating from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Mr. Schubert served with the Army in the Korean War. He then worked for several accounting firms before joining Unity Savings and Loan. The bank eventually became part of LaSalle Bank. He spent most of his more than 25-year career with the bank in the Loop and retired in the late 1990s. Mr. Schubert met his wife, Roberta “Bert,” on a blind date, fell in love and married her in 1965. The couple raised their family in Skokie. His wife died in 1996. Other survivors include his stepson, Michael; his brother, Elliot; and a grandchild. Services are set for 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Piser Chapel, 9200 N. Skokie Blvd., Skokie.
