Steve Sullivan, traded Monday by the Blackhawks, made the most of his Nashville debut with three power-play goals and an assist, and Marek Zidlicky set a Predators record with five assists in a 7-3 victory Wednesday night against the San Jose Sharks.

Kimmo Timonen added two goals, one on the power play, and an assist, and Scott Walker had a power-play goal and three assists.

Senators get Caps’ Bondra

Peter Bondra became the latest victim of the Washington Capitals’ salary purge, getting traded to Ottawa for center Brooks Laich and a 2005 second-round pick.

“We’re supposed to be big, tough guys, but there were a lot of tears this morning,” general manager George McPhee said.

Bondra, 36, leaves the Capitals as the franchise’s career leader in goals (472), points (825), power-play goals (137), game-winning goals (73), short-handed goals (32) and hat tricks (19).

Belfour still ailing

Toronto goalie Ed Belfour will miss at least another game due to a back injury.

Roberto Luongo stopped 41 shots for Panthers. Tough guy Eric Boulton snapped a 54-game scoring slump, scoring lone goal for Buffalo, which had a 4-game winning streak end.

Pittsburgh 3 at N.Y. Islanders 4

Mariusz Czerkawski scored a pair of PP goals as Islanders sent Penguins to their 16th straight loss. Roman Hamrlik and Kenny Jonsson also scored for New York, which is 20-8-2 at home.

Phoenix 2 at Detroit 5

Brett Hull tied Dave Andreychuk’s NHL record with his 263rd career PP goal and Kris Draper scored twice. Phoenix, 1-8-1-1 in its last 11, was without top goal scorer Ladislav Nagy (wrist).

San Jose 3 at Nashville 7

Steve Sullivan became 1st Predator to score 3 PP goals in a game. Nashville, which set a franchise mark with its 19th home win, was 5-for-7 on PP against NHL’s top penalty-killing team.

Edmonton 5 at Colorado 1

Ryan Smyth had a goal and 2 assists as Oilers extended Avs’ home winless streak to 4 (0-2-1-1). Peter Forsberg was a late scratch for the Avalanche because of a strained hip.

Columbus 1 at Anaheim 3

Vaclav Prospal’s goal with 1:49 left in 3rd period broke 1-1 tie as Ducks won their 5th straight at home. Blue Jackets have won only 3 of 27 road games and are winless in last 8 (0-5-3).

Dallas 4 at Los Angeles 3

Mike Modano scored twice and Dan Ellis stopped 25 shots starting in place of Marty Turco, who has been playing on a broken left foot and didn’t start for the 1st time in 33 games.
