All of the controversy over the soon-to-be-released movie “The Passion of the Christ” seems to be missing a key point. The groups who called for the death of Christ and who carried out the sentence are irrelevant. The story of the Passion is that God sent Christ to die and he died to atone for the sins of all people. The Romans and the Jews in the story of the Passion were carrying out their fated roles. The issue shouldn’t be who carried out the Crucifixion. The issue should be why it was necessary for Christ, an innocent, to be crucified. The answer is to save all from sin. True Christians believe all people are sinners and Christ was sent to die for all sinners. Therefore we all share responsibility for his death and should be thankful Christ was sent.
