This is regarding the letter to the editor “Gravesite gesture” (Voice of the people, Jan. 22). I, too, had the good fortune of having this young boy approach my car at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside on the morning of Christmas Eve. I was in the street by my car and starting to walk to my mother and father’s graves.

He handed me a cute, small teddy bear and said, “Merry Christmas; this is for you. It’s from an angel. My grandmother gives these out each year.”

He went back to his grandmother’s car and I asked this very nice senior lady, “What’s this all about?”

She replied, “An angel sent me to you. I only give these out to people she leads me to.”

I told her she really helped make a very sad holiday for me more bearable. Then I told her that my mother would have been 98 years old Christmas Day. She died last year. And my only brother died three years prior to her death. I am 74 years old and with so many family members gone, Christmastime is sad for me.

It’s so wonderful to know there are people who are so thoughtful of others. She is teaching her two grandsons a valuable lesson–giving to others and helping make someone happier.

I know there’s a halo in heaven waiting for her, for all the good deeds she has done to others.
