I have just returned from a second recovery stay at excellent Evanston Hospital. I had one complaint. The hospital shows patients’ Social Security numbers on their wrist bracelets. I was once a victim of ID theft that cost me a few thousand dollars.

In answering my objection, one nurse said, “Would you rather lose your money or life?” Her claim is that the hospital must have proof you are the right person receiving correct medication.

I would think another safeguard could be made to protect hospital and patient. Some restaurants only use the last digits of a credit card number.
