Wisconsin tailback Dwayne Smith, 19, who was the Badgers’ leading rusher as a sophomore last season, and Anwar L. Jones, 22, were charged in Dane County (Wis.) Circuit Court with being party to the crime of second-degree sexual assault with use of force.
Jones made an initial court appearance Wednesday and Court Commissioner Todd Meurer reduced his bail from $2,000 to $1,000.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for March 4.
– Doug Williams said he presented a list of needs to Grambling State athletic director Al Dennis but said he got no response. After the proposal went unanswered for 20 days, Williams began negotiations for a job he later took with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
– Colorado appointed former Michigan State President John DiBiaggio to help the school determine whether its embattled athletic department has a culture that encourages mistreatment of women.
– Miami’s home game against Louisville had been set for Sept. 16, the first day of Rosh Hashanah. But following complaints from fans, officials from both schools agreed to move it to Oct. 14. The Hurricanes’ Oct. 16 game against Louisiana Tech also was moved to Sept. 18.
