When MTV says something’s banned, it’s banned forever–or for three weeks, whichever comes first.
After much sanctimonious hand-wringing over its breast-baring Super Bowl halftime show, the cable music channel promised to tone down its image and exile racier videos to the wee hours.
But now that the incident is fading from memory, explicit videos are starting to see the light of day again.
Britney Spears’ “Toxic,” which shows the singer writhing on the floor, has been on again at all hours and is a favorite on daytime hit “Total Request Live.”
A less offensive version of Blink 182’s “I Miss You” and a Maroon 5 cut also are back.
Why the flip-flop?
“We decided to take a temperature check, we listened to the audience, we wanted to make sure we still felt good about the images on MTV,” a network rep told the New York Daily News. Viewers “decided they wanted to see these artists.”
