If you walked past the Hard Rock Hotel on East Wacker Place just off Michigan Avenue on Friday, you could spot actor Nicolas Cage and the production of the movie “The Weather Man.”

Friday’s location is a popular alley that was used for an action sequence in the 1999 Mel Gibson movie “Payback.”

Because the alley runs below East Wacker, onlookers of “The Weather Man” were able to look down and get a good view of the production. When fans shouted to Cage, he smiled and waved back.

Even odder, the set was about the only place in Chicago with snow. Friday’s temperatures were balmy, and the crew installed snowmaking machines and fans to blow the flakes and mist all over the back of the block.
