Here’s what the Washington Wizards and Jerry Stackhouse agree on: The forward will not play Monday against the New Orleans Hornets, and his ailing right knee will be examined by a team doctor no later than Tuesday.
From there, however, Stackhouse and Ernie Grunfeld, the team’s president of basketball operations, don’t quite seem to be in agreement.
After scoring 20 points in Saturday’s 122-110 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, Stackhouse said that he would not play the rest of the season because of recurring knee problems. Grunfeld countered that no decision has even been made on whether Stackhouse will go on the injured list.
While Stackhouse apparently is inclined to believe he needs to get totally healthy before he can play, Grunfeld said the team wants to see if Stackhouse’s knee, which was operated on in the preseason, is structurally sound before deciding whether the forward will shut it down for the season’s remaining 25 games.
Bryant hearing Monday
The woman who accused Kobe Bryant of rape told police she had consensual sex with someone else two days earlier, but whether jurors will be allowed to hear that is part of the extensive agenda for a hearing that starts Monday.
Before such information can be presented to the jury at Bryant’s assault trial, the state’s rape-shield law requires that Bryant’s attorneys prove to the judge in a closed-door hearing that the woman’s prior sexual information is relevant.
The woman is scheduled to testify Tuesday. She and Bryant will be in court together for the first time since the Los Angeles Lakers guard was arrested in July.
Wade dinged up
Miami rookie Dwyane Wade left the Heat’s 108-104 loss to the Bucks with a sprained right foot with about four minutes left in the third quarter. He went to the locker room early in the fourth quarter and didn’t return.
Wade, playing in his first game at the Bradley Center since helping Marquette reach the Final Four last season, missed all seven of his shots and finished with just six points. He also had five turnovers in 25 minutes.
