I am appalled at the current trend in school field trips discussed in “Reading, writing, retailing: Field trips flock to stores” (Page 1, Feb. 22). As a former art museum educator and a parent, I find it depressing and flat out disgraceful that school administrators turn their backs on the legitimate educational efforts made by museums and similar organizations and instead allow corporate money and sponsorship to dictate where and how students spend their school day.

Let’s demand that a trip’s educational content be emphasized over its cost.
