As spring cleaning season approaches, what would you like to add or replace in your apartment?

“Probably get a bigger closet.”

–Lily Rodriguez, 30, computer programmer, Lakeview

“I’d get an AC unit because I don’t have AC in the apartment.”

–Gurpreet Dhaliwal, 26, student, Gold Coast

“I have a toilet I need to change because it keeps running. And I would do some painting.”

–Ken Palmer, 31, Xerox operator, Maywood

“I guess I’d get a new desk. Mine’s kind of falling apart.”

–Meredith Lyons, 25, actress, Lincoln Square

…OR BANK IT

Art–trash? Truck full of junk hint of warm weather gives some the spring-cleaning urge. Not one to scrub the bathroom yourself? For about $100 a month (depending on the size of your home–and how grimy you let the bathtub get) you can hire a cleaning service to do the dirty work for you.

Or, if you’re ready to purge all that old junk piling up in the basement or storage space, 1-800-GOT-JUNK will haul it away for you.

Ed Udelle, operations manager for the franchise’s Palatine office, says they’ll take away as much or as little as you’re willing to part with, as long as it’s non-hazardous and two people can safely lift and carry it. For $478, you can rid yourself of a truckload of stuff (including loading and cleanup).

They recycle about 40 percent of the junk; the rest goes to trash transfer stations.
