Grant C. Gentry, age 79, died March 4, 2004, in Newport Beach, CA, his winter home. Mr. Gentry was born June 5, 1924 in Chicago and lived for the past 30 years in Park Ridge. He is survived by wife Doris, nee Helsten; sons Grant Jr. and Scott (Moira); also a sister Doris Cleland. Mr. Gentry served with the 11th Airborne in WWII making 2 combat jumps, one of which was on February 23, 1945 in the Los Banos Prisoner of War Camp. Mr. Gentry was a Executive Vice President and Director of Jewel Companies, Inc, President of The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company and the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Food Fair/Pantry Pride. A memorial service is planned.
