Ellen Walker Perlitz, 63, of Dataw Island, SC, wife of Robert “Bob” Perlitz, died March 1, 2004 at Duke University Hospital, Durham, NC with her husband, daughter and brother, William at her side. A Memorial Mass will be offered March 13, 2004, 10 a.m. at St. Peters Catholic Church, with reception immediately following at the Dataw Island Club in the Carolina Room. Mrs. Perlitz was born May 30, 1940 in New York City, NY, daughter of Marguerite Gibson and William Gibson, later to be adopted by Christopher Weld. A graduate of Ferry Hall School, Lake Forest, IL, she attended Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa. She and her husband resided in the north suburbs of Chicago before being transferred to Florida, while continuing to spend the summers at their home in Eagle River, WI until her illness. They moved to Dataw Island in 1997. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and a member of the Dataw Island Club, the Dataw Island Women’s Golf Association and the Dataw Island Yacht Club. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert H. Perlitz III. Survivors include her devoted husband of Dataw Island; her beloved daughter, Nancy Schintzius of Jupiter, FL; her beloved granddaughter, Courtney Schintzius; a sister, Marguerite “Peggy” Weld of Lake Worth, FL; and two brothers, Christopher Weld (Catherine) of Sedona, AZ and William “Bill” Weld (Joanne) of Boynton Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the sisters to the Franciscan Center in Beaufort, SC, P.O. Box 682, Beaufort, SC 29902.
