Rita,
Why is it so hard to see the real issue here?
Marriage by a judge or justice of the peace or a county clerk is a CIVIL (both meanings) act of law. The current furor by our misguided president, his political party and the ardent religious is based on their purposeful ignorance and violation of the law–of the separation of church and state.
Persons married in the civil process execute a contract. It is not a holy, ordained rite of a religion. If churches, synagogues, temples, etc. want to ban gay marriages, that is their right based upon their interpretation of their religious doctrines, but it is NOT their right to exert their beliefs on our legal processes. That is violating civil rights–just as the separate but equal arguments for race, disability and age were deemed such.
My god is not vengeful, my god tells me to love my neighbor, my god does not want me to preach falsely. It is between my god and “sinners” as to what may happen.
The “family” is not harmed by gay marriages. Families are harmed by violent abusive parents, siblings and spouses–families are torn apart by acts of mistrust and deceit–not the partnership of a neighborhood couple.
Children grow from love, support and education they receive from adults. Children are deeply harmed and stunted in their development when raised with the hate being demonstrated by those claiming to be god-fearing “Christians.”
Those “Christians” do not worship my Christ. They are anti-Christian in their very acts of civil disobedience by bad-mouthing and taking the name of God in vain toward their neighbors, their brothers and sisters.
Thank you for letting me vent.
