Daily Variety reports that Matthew McConaughey is looking to slip into the driver’s seat of DreamWorks’ movie called “Hammer Down,” the story of a disgraced NASCAR driver who gets involved in a heist with the hope of returning to real racing.
On top of that, “NASCAR 3D: The IMAX Experience” opens at the Navy Pier IMAX Theater on March 12th.
So just what are the all-time great movies involving auto races? Here’s our five:
1. “The Fast and the Furious:” Box office doesn’t lie. Just ask Vin Diesel.
2. “The Cannonball Run;” Look at the cast. Sammy Davis Jr. disguised as a priest? Gold, pure gold.
3. “Smokey and the Bandit:” Burt Reynolds gets the Oscar for best actor in a car race.
4. “Days of Thunder:” Bash the unrealistic driving all you want. It captured the prehistoric roar of the engines.
5. “Six Pack:” It’s a younger Kenny Rogers and a way younger Diane Lane and Anthony Michael Hall.
