Each ounce of Joy Parfum requires 10,600 jasmine flowers and 28 dozen May roses.
Joy has been a classic since 1929, when designer Jean Patou made the perfume as a gift for his American friends and clients who could no longer visit his Paris shop on account of the stock market crash.
If you can’t afford the pricey perfume, which goes for $400 an ounce, Jean Patou recently introduced a sister scent called Enjoy. Enjoy is jasmine and rose mixed with citrus top notes and woody base notes. Enjoy costs $65 for 50 milliliters and $85 for 75 and is available at Saks Fifth Avenue.
