James William Teevans, born on September 23, 1963 to Nancy and Robert Teevans in Chicago and raised in Des Plaines, Illinois. Jim died peacefully at home in Oakland, California after a valiant battle with melanoma on March 8, 2004. Jim received his B.A., summa cum laude from Loyola University (’85) and his law degree from the University of Michigan (’88). After graduation he worked for the Chicago law firm, Gardner, Carton and Douglas, where he was trial counsel in three major health care actions. Steven Rosenberg became a great friend and mentor to Jim and he will dearly miss him. Jim had been admitted to practice before numerous federal courts and was a member of the Illinois and California Bars, the American Bar Association, and the American Health Lawyers Association. He authored several reports and articles on health care legal and policy issues and spoke frequently at conferences and workshops across the country. Jim’s honesty, integrity, and sense of humor will continue to inspire his close friends Paul, Kurt, Jacquie, Kerin, Anne, George and Cara as well as his law school roommates and friends for life, Greg, Bob and Jim. Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Janet, and he took great comfort in knowing she was waiting to guide him to his new home. Jim is survived by his proud and loving parents, his devoted sister Debra and brother-in-law, Dieter Kram, sister Susan Artarian, brother John and sister-in-law Mariellen Teevans, 11 adoring nieces and nephews, and numerous loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
