“Don’t ever think that one person can’t change the world, because that’s the only thing that ever has.”
–“Stargate SG-1” co-star Amanda Tapping tells Q about one of a “bunch of credos that I live by.”
Tapping, who plays Air Force scientist Samantha Carter on the Sci-Fi Channel’s highest-rated series, says the mantra is close to her because “if you look throughout history, it’s always been one person . . . and it’s quite relevant today, actually, with the current political climate.”
Tapping, who was born in England and has been acting for 16 years, says she’s not quite sure where she heard the motto (it might have been controversial philosopher Ayn Rand), but “it’s just something that struck me when I heard it.”
She cites as an example Jeremy Gilley, a British filmmaker who created Peace One Day, a worldwide observance of cease-fire that has the backing of the United Nations.
“It was one little guy who was at a rock festival sitting in a field one day,” she says, “and was inspired.”
The season finale of “Stargate SG-1” airs at 8 p.m. Friday on the Sci-Fi Channel.
