George E. Smetak, 76, of Vernon Hills, formerly of Richmond, VA and Irwin, PA was called by God on February 7, 2004. Born on August 18, 1927 in Jeanette, PA, a son of the late Benjamin and Stella Rumick Smetak. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with an Electrical Engineering degree in 1951. He worked as an International Sales Manager for Siemens (formerly Powers Regulator Co.) and Robert Shaw Controls before retiring in 1993. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 601, Syria Shriners Temple of Pittsburgh, Lodge Council Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh and American Legion Post 0084 of Richmond, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Joan B. Shellenbarger Smetak and a sister Lillian Matthews Fell. He is survived by a son Edward Smetak of Glen Allen, VA; a daughter Carol Fijalkiewicz and husband Joseph of Vernon Hills; and two grandchildren Michael and Matthew Fijalkiewicz. Funeral services and inurnment were held in Irwin, PA. Memorial donations to the American Heart Association appreciated.
