Defenseman Brian Rafalski of the New Jersey Devils will likely miss the final 10 games of the regular season with a broken right leg.
Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello also said Tuesday that captain Scott Stevens, recovering from a concussion, could be available for the playoffs.
Rafalski bruised a bone behind his right knee Feb. 28 against Toronto and aggravated the injury last Tuesday against Philadelphia.
X-rays Sunday showed a fractured fibula. The injury will not require a cast, and Rafalski should only need rest to be ready for next month’s playoffs, Lamoriello said.
Pens to lower ticket prices
With attendance sagging to 20-year lows and a potential NHL work stoppage on the horizon, Pittsburgh Penguins team President Ken Sawyer said the team would reduce ticket prices across the board for the 2004-05 season.
In its first 36 home games, Pittsburgh has averaged just 11,791 fans per game.
Sabres’ hopes take hit
Buffalo’s playoff chances took a hit when defenseman Alexei Zhitnik was lost for the rest of the regular season with a non-displaced fracture in his right shoulder.
In addition, captain Chris Drury suffered a concussion in Monday’s 6-5 overtime loss to Toronto and will be lost for a minimum of a week.
