Maria Zerbes, died at her home on March 15, 2004 after a battle with cancer. Born in Cilnic, Romania on Oct. 28, 1924, to Paul and Maria Greger, who preceded her in death. On April 6, 1950 in Germany, she married Andreas Zerbes, who died March 9, 1997. Survivors include two sons, Hans Gerhardt (Renata “Ronnie”) Zerbes of Michigan City and Gunter (Kathy) Zerbes of LaPorte; five grandchildren, Peter (Lisa) Zerbes of Naperville, IL, Joseph Zerbes of Michigan City, Trina Maria Zerbes of Michigan City, Nicole Marie Zerbes of LaPorte and Michael Andrew Zerbes of LaPorte; and one greatgrandchild. She and her family owned and operated the Europa House Restaurant in Chicago and then the Old Heidelberg Restaurant in Michigan City.
