When they’re doing 170 m.p.h. in the turns and get bumped by other NASCAR drivers, guys like Dale Earnhardt Jr. tend to, oh, cuss over their in-car radio.
But because fans in the stands can hear the chatter with a scanner, NASCAR wants their drivers to clean it up.
“What we say on our radio inside our race car is our own business and nobody else’s,” said Earnhardt Jr., a notorious curser. “Anybody else can tune in, but it’s at your own risk. That’s our office.”
So far NASCAR isn’t restricting driver language in the car, but NASCAR “reminded” drivers to try to keep it clean. NASCAR president Mike Helton explicitly told drivers to watch their mouths on radio and television.
Or maybe you like cussing, in which case you should know Taco Bell launched a campaign for a new taco salad and the top prize is a date with Earnhardt Jr. himself. Just don’t spill any sauce on his seats. That might make him … oh, never mind.
