Bravo to this administration for coming out against obesity, what a courageous stand to take during an important election year. It is time to shape up now to save future generations.

Let us all work together to encourage the leaders of both parties to reduce the waistline of this nation’s deficit by reducing unnecessary calorie intake in some of those marvelous yet extremely rich tax breaks. Let’s encourage the leaders to slim down and exercise some restraint when it comes to handing out those fat- laden government goody bags to large contributors to both parties.

How about a restricted diet to reduce the unemployment rate by keeping jobs at home rather then pigging out on cheap labor overseas. There is nothing wrong with truth in labeling, but let’s require the government to include truth in labeling when it comes to the federal budget. Sounds good doesn’t it, we can lose even more weight by just saying “no” to pork-barrel legislation.

Let us, instead, beef up our educational goals by reinstating the money that should have gone to the schools in the first place, then we can require our schools to provide our children with not only a great education, but a well-balanced exercise program through physical education. We could also encourage our nation’s companies to require employees to get up from their desks and enjoy a refreshing walk outdoors during their lunch hour or even better yet, bring back the “hour” lunch. That way employees could eat healthier meals rather than doing a run to the nearest fast-food restaurant because they don’t have time to eat properly. We can shed some more weight by making sure that the men and women in our military get weapons and equipment that really do work instead of weapons such as missiles and helicopters that don’t.

Finally let us splurge on the welfare of all our brave veterans and their families by indulging them with proper health care and assistance that they have richly earned and deserve.

For once Mr. Bush, you and I agree, the time has come for trimming the fat.
