About 300 patients treated for syphilis at the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center were accidentally prescribed medication containing half the dose recommended for the disease, officials said Friday.
Between January 1999 and this month, the patients were prescribed Bicillin C-R instead of Bicillin L-A, the county’s Department of Health Services said in a statement.
Bicillin C-R contains only half the dose of benzathine penicillin G recommended for treating syphilis, health officials said.
It was unclear what effect the error had on the patients.
