Since she moved to Arlington Heights 26 years ago, Emma E. Quast, 82, had joined half a dozen social and charitable groups. “It occupied her time and allowed her to give back to people,” said her son Richard. Mrs. Quast died of congestive heart failure Sunday, March 21, in Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge. Born in Nebraska, she grew up in Chicago, leaving school when she was about 12 to work as a grocery store clerk. She got married at 19, started a family, and lived in the Jefferson Park neighborhood. After her husband, Richard, died, she moved to Arlington Heights. Among the clubs in which she was active were the Lioness Club in Arlington Heights, the Mt. Prospect Women’s Club and the Mt. Prospect Grandmothers Club. “She was a knitting fanatic,” her son said. Other survivors include three more sons, Kenneth, Donald and Robert; a daughter, Patricia; 27 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mark Lutheran Church, 200 S. Wille St., Mt. Prospect.
