A Waukegan man was sentenced to 30 years in prison Friday for strangling his aunt.
Carlos Izquierdo-Flores, 23, was found guilty in February of first-degree murder in the September 2000 death of Adelina Flores, 30.
Izquierdo-Flores and his aunt quarreled when he returned home to the apartment they shared in the 1700 block of Golf Road after a night of drinking.
They got into a struggle and she bit one of his fingers. Izquierdo-Flores had argued that this was evidence that he was defending himself, but prosecutors said Izquierdo-Flores deliberately killed his aunt. A forensic pathologist said Flores died of strangulation with an unknown object.
Izquierdo-Flores stared straight ahead as Lake County Associate Judge John Phillips sentenced him.
