This is regarding Chief Illiniwek (“Though not morally offensive, Illiniwek should go,” by Kevin Cates, Voice of the people, March 20). I am beginning to think a fresh idea has to be heard. If it is demeaning to call the representative of our university “chief,” then it must be equally demeaning to call a firefighter or police officer “chief.” And how about the revered Navy chief petty officer we call “chief”? If we change one title, should we not change them all?
