Congratulations to all the architects, homebuilders and homeowners who have built tasteful and neighborhood-friendly homes in Clarendon Hills over the past few years. Beautiful homes without “snouts” can indeed be built on narrow lots.

Many new fine examples of creative and interesting designs have graced our community.

On the other hand some have built the garage-centric “snout house,” which turns its back on the street and de-emphasizes architectural interest, often embracing only a nesting pair of monster-size sport-utility vehicles.

The design is all about the car.

Some forward-thinking cities have already banned the “snouts.”

I encourage our village leaders and home consumers to demand that new homes be built with a connection to our community.
