Problem: That Kate Spade bag or Trek mountain bike is no longer carrying its weight (or yours). But you lack eBay expertise.
Solution: ExpressDrop, an eBay drop-off and research center, at 1900 W. Belmont Ave.
ExpressDrop welcomes any eBay-accepted item with an estimated value of $50 or more, photographs it and writes an eBay listing, then uses its software for added intelligence, such as average selling price and best day and time to list the item. (“A luxury item should close on a Sunday night, so people can look leisurely over weekends,” one of the ExpressDrop partners, Amy Mayer, told us.)
The basic package, at no charge beyond the commission, includes a seven-day auction, a bold title, gallery photo and $1 opening bid. The $9.99 premium package extends to a 10-day auction, a reserve price of your choice and a “buy it now” option. ExpressDrop fields questions during the auction, ships the item and sends you a check.
ExpressDrop’s commission is 32 percent of the first $500 of the selling price, 25 percent of the next $2,500 and 10 percent after that. EBay also charges fees. All of that might strike some as steep.
But are you collecting any rental income from those items sucking up space in your abode?
