In “Testing Spain’s resolve” (Editorial, March 17), you say the Spanish elections sent “the terrible message” that “Spain has reacted to terrorism by acceding to the terrorists’ wishes.”
The United States reacted to the horror of Sept. 11, 2001, by acceding to the wildest dreams of a terrorist who would destroy us– by invading a country that was no threat, squandering our country’s trust among nations and causing thousands of people (including Americans) to die or be wounded in an open-ended debacle.
The United States did not have to do these things.
The president’s re-election campaign stresses his role as a leader in war.
So far his leadership has been ignorant and self-indulgent.
