I commend you for “Lucky to be alive, but living in pain; Some GIs return home with debilitating wounds they wouldn’t have survived in previous wars” (Page 1, March 16), by Tribune national correspondent Dahleen Glanton. We witness the count of the American and Iraqi dead. But the wounded, in many cases, will be paying a ghastly price for the rest of their lives, as will their families.

The human cost, the loss of respect by foreign countries, the monetary cost–surely there could have been a better way to deal with the threat posed by Saddam Hussein.
