Nearly 3 million people caught the first episode of MTV’s “I Want a Famous Face,” an impressive number for cable. The show finished that week as a top 10 cable show among viewers ages 18-49, 18-34, 12-34, 12-24 and, yes, even 12- to 17-year-olds.
MTV’s show is one of several new shows that are capitalizing on the success of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover,” launched in 2003. Other shows include:
– “The Swan”: Debuts April 7 on Fox with the first of a nine-episode series featuring 18 women competing to attain the best new look over a three-month period. Each woman will be assisted by a cosmetic surgeon and a team including a therapist, physical trainer, cosmetic dentist and hair stylist.
– “Nip/Tuck”: FX’s not-so-true-to-life drama about the private and professional adventures of a pair of plastic surgeons, returns June 22 with 16 new episodes.
– Bravo is planning a six-part documentary series in 2005 on five plastic surgeons in Florida, (tentatively) titled “Miami Slice.”
