This is regarding Tribune staff reporter Delroy Alexander’s “Some steamed by Oberweis chairman’s ads” (Business, March 25). After reading the article relating to Jim Oberweis and Oberweis Dairy, I am quite disappointed to see the negative press on the dairy. As an employee of Oberweis Dairy for 18 months and as a home-delivery customer, the company has provided a wonderful work environment and livelihood not only for myself but for thousands of Illinois employees who have worked for the Oberweis family over the last 75 years.
The Oberweis culture is one that recognizes that hard work breeds success, but also recognizes and enforces the importance of family life, a characteristic important in today’s society.
At a time when negative stories continually grace the front pages of all newspapers, I viewed Alexander’s article as an attack on a dairy and a long-time Illinois employer that has done so many great things for individuals and families in the Chicago area.
In the future, I suggest to Alexander and other Tribune staff reporters to occasionally reconsider the focus of their articles to positive topics that will enlighten the readers of the Tribune and to stay away from negativity, as the papers already print enough of that.
