Myles Brand used the Final Four as a forum to profess his alleged desire for the NCAA to emphasize academics over athletics. When Brand was the president of Indiana University, he limited raises for professors to 2 1/2 percent and (simultaneously) granted raises of 25 to 100 percent to individually-selected athletic department administrators.
Certainly there are problems with intercollegiate athletics today, but it will take more than Brand’s sanctimonious hypocrisy to fix them.
