Emergency repairs to Chicago Harbor Lock have been completed early, allowing the lock to reopen. Work involved replacing bushings and roller shafts on every gate roller on all four gates. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Illinois Waterway Project Office crews from Peoria performed a majority of the work. The cost of the repairs is $1.1 million. Up-to-date lock information is available on the Corps’ Chicago Harbor Lock navigation update line at 312-337-5175.
