“American Idol” outcast John Stevens may have looked unperturbed when the judges ripped apart his performances every week, but don’t think he never considered telling Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson where they could put their criticisms.

“I think the thought had gone through my mind many times,” Stevens told zap2it.com. “But I think that to be a man, you have to hold that back and know how to hold that back.”

The love-him-or-hate-him crooner also confessed to mtv.com that he felt guilty when other contestants were voted off before him, calling his fellow finalists “like a second family.”

And America hasn’t heard the last of Stevens. After wrapping up his junior year of high school, he’ll embark on the 48-city “Idol” summer tour, which stops by the United Center on Aug. 5. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on May 22 through idolonfox.com.

As for “Idol’s” fourth installment, Cowell told Entertainment Weekly that he’s picked up a few tips from “The Apprentice” to jazz things up.

Also, locales such as Alaska, Cleveland, New Orleans and St. Louis are being considered for audition sites, and Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney could be tagged as guest judges.
