While we sympathize with you procrastinators who haven’t yet made Mother’s Day reservations for this Sunday, Mom might not be so forgiving. So we recommend that you give these places a call. Now.
Sangria Cafe
Skip the traditional eggs-and-bacon and try a Spanish-style brunch at this new hot spot. The four-course prix-fixe brunch includes smoked salmon with jalapeno-lime cream sauce, Serrano eggs Benedict with chipotle hollandaise, and spicy jumbo shrimp crepe with goat cheese. Noon-2:30 p.m. $24.95. 901 W. Weed St. 312-266-1200.
Wave
Dig into lavender-crusted grilled salmon with roasted asparagus and hollandaise sauce and the Wave Sundae, a tower of sesame ice cream with pomegranate and chocolate sauce and pistachio nougatine. Try a glass of champagne with a splash of fresh strawberry, mango or passion fruit juice. 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Get it all for $34.95. 644 N. Lake Shore Drive, 312-255-4460.
Brasserie Jo
So you forgot to get Mom flowers? Be sure to order a hand-held bouquet ($35) or centerpiece ($50) when you make your reservations at this French bistro, and she’ll never know.
A la carte brunch items include a seafood crepe and poached Parisian eggs. Top off the day with a chapeau for Mom, which she can choose herself from a display, courtesy of the Millinery Arts Alliance. 11 a.m.-2 p.m. $12-$18. 59 W. Hubbard St. 312-595-0800.
Feast
As if you couldn’t take a clue from the name, we promise you won’t go hungry at this prix-fixe brunch, which includes a champagne cocktail, entree, assorted cookies and coffee or tea. Try the petit filet mignon benedict or salad nicoise with seared tuna. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. $19.50. 1616 N. Damen Ave. 773-772-7100.
Bin 36
Wine might normally take the spotlight at this River North spot, but the prix-fixe brunch buffet will steal the show on Mother’s Day. Blini with smoked salmon, caviar, creme fraiche and chives and Duck prosciutto with figs, nuts, arugula and shaved melon are just two examples of offerings included in the luxurious spread. There’s also a bloody mary bar, mimosas or champagne flights available for an additional cost. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. $36. 339 N. Hubbard St. 312-755-9463.
Kitsch’n on Roscoe
This kitsch’n will be hoppin’ on Mother’s Day with a la carte brunch specials, an omelet station, flowers for Mom and a Funky Family Photo contest (bring a color shot!). Like the Tang-tinis (cosmos made with Tang), everything on the menu here is traditional with a twist. Try the honey-orange glazed ham with eggs and Texas toast or the filet mignon steak ‘n’ eggs platter. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. $9-$12. 2005 W. Roscoe St. 773-248-7372.
Give mom the runaround
So your mom’s not the ladies-who-lunch type? No problem. Take part in the Y-ME RACE Against Breast Cancer instead.
