Seventh-seeded Illinois-Chicago pulled out a 2-1 victory in eight innings when Joyce Cathey’s fielder’s choice scored Elizabeth Jacoby to eliminate sixth-seeded Bowling Green from the NCAA Division I regional softball tournament at Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Flames, who had lost earlier Thursday to No. 2 seed Tennessee 10-0, play Friday against the Michigan-Notre Dame loser.
The fourth-seeded Irish had defeated No. 5 DePaul 8-6 earlier despite a grand slam and five RBIs by the Blue Demons’ Saskia Roberson.
